Activities
- The Good Shoe, Bad Shoe activity is intended to help a person recognise whether or not they are wearing safe shoes. The way this activity has been designed hopefully encourages people who are hard of hearing to participate. The photos can help carers and families to speak with people about the subject and guide them towards recognising if the shoes they have are sensible and consider how to make better choices when it comes to buying shoes.
- Feet washing
- Foot spa
- Using foot spray/talcum powder, moisturiser
- Filing toenails
- Painting toenails
- Measuring the size (length and width) of a persons feet, using a device/chart from a shoe provider.
People may choose to complete the activities listed above independently. However, if assisted by someone it can feel reassuring, help to build relationships, be an opportunity for monitoring a person’s foot condition, education and laughter, give people choices to speak about their likes and dislikes as well as promoting a feeling of well-being. Be aware though that some people can feel sensitive about having their feet touched!
There are lots of way that foot art can be used creatively. A person can do this activity in whichever way they feel comfortable doing so. For example,
- Dip their feet into paint and put their feet straight onto the paper.
- Paint each other's feet if this is something they feel comfortable with doing making this activity more of sociable.
- A carer or family to help paint their feet.
After this activity has finished, this can follow with pampering and educating people about how to wash their feet to maintain/improve footcare. Showing different methods such as soaking feet in hot soapy water, using a long handled sponge and different ways they can clean between their toes.
