Activities

  • How far away can you see your hands if outstretched to the side at eye level (in peripheral vision) and gradually moved inwards.  This is a great indicator of a person visual field, indicating what obstacles they may or may not be able to see as they move around.
  • Cleaning own/each others glasses
  • Have a selection of sounds at different pitches - see if people can hear them and name them
  • Name that tune – Available on YouTube Guess the song 50’s quiz or Elder Quiz.
  • Musical Bingo - the same as regular Bingo, except instead of marking off the numbers that someone calls out, you'll listen to music samples and mark off the instruments you hear.  Musical Bingo - Alzheimer's Society (alzheimers.org.uk)

  • Spot the Difference.  The settee activity has 5 differences and the washing up lady has 3 differences. Engagement is activities is important - If something is too difficult, people are more likely to give up and therefore will not be gaining the benefits of meaningful engagements.  Through such an activity, participants are able to show their eye function, someone who is struggling may benefit from an eye examination.  It is also a good opportunity for discussion and doing this collaboratively encourages people to talk together and help each other.
